In 1990, I came to Pittsburgh, PA. I was looking for support to start my graduate studies in Electrical Engineering. I just came from Yugoslavia (the country about to be destroyed by the wave of ethnic wars of 1990's). At the University of Pittsburgh I talked with several professors among them my future advisor Dr. Bob Sclabassi. He invited me for an interview to check me out as a potential candidate for a Research Assistanship in his group. I met several people who asked me all kinds of questions. At some point I was told that the next person I would talk to was
Dr. Frank Meno (pictured here). The name did not mean anything to me at the time. Just another Ph.D. that would grill me about various technical and scientific problems.
He came in. He greeted me in a fluent Serbian language...
