Dr. Frank Meno and The Structure of the Universe

In 1990, I came to Pittsburgh, PA. I was looking for support to start my graduate studies in Electrical Engineering. I just came from Yugoslavia (the country about to be destroyed by the wave of ethnic wars of 1990's). At the University of Pittsburgh I talked with several professors among them my future advisor Dr. Bob Sclabassi. He invited me for an interview to check me out as a potential candidate for a Research Assistanship in his group. I met several people who asked me all kinds of questions. At some point I was told that the next person I would talk to was Dr. Frank Meno (pictured here). The name did not mean anything to me at the time. Just another Ph.D. that would grill me about various technical and scientific problems.

He came in. He greeted me in a fluent Serbian language...

The Meaning of Life

So far I touched on most of the questions I would like to discuss on this blog. Today, I'd like to talk about the Meaning of Life. A big, real big question. I guess one could say that this is perhaps the central question every philosopher in the known history tried to ponder. I, for one, could not start talking about it without thinking of number '42' as well as Monty Python's Flying Circus. I'm serious. I'm not joking.

We already know that the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything is 42. I have no reason to doubt that. Real nice number. Round and even. Unfortunately, that is just the numerical representation of the Answer. I need more. There must be more to it. The 42 is too Zen-like.

Human Race Survival Guide

Shouldn't we have some common goals as Humans that we think we should all strive to achieve? Apart from blowing ourselves up and trying to prove to each other we are more worthy than the others?

Lease Expiration

The Earth will not be inhabitable for infinite period of time. Eventually, the Sun will die and the Earth will die along with it. It is as simple as that. Now, you may think it will take very long time before this happens. That is relative, as Albert (the guy on the left) often liked to point out. I am sure that the readers of this blog will not live long enough to see this happen and it would be very naive of me to think that this blog would be still popular when this unfortunate event happens.
